On Friday night, the first encounter of the 22nd round of La Liga fixtures will kick off as Girona welcomes Almeria to their stadium. The visitors will be looking to break a run of results that has left them only two points above the relegation zone going into this match.

Real Madrid will play Osasuna away from home on Saturday in the most important match of the day. Carlo Ancelotti’s team is now eight points behind FC Barcelona in the battle for the title following a comfortable 4-0 win at home against Elche on Wednesday night.

Let’s take a closer look at a few other key matches I’m dialed in on.

La Liga Matchday 22 Preview & Best Bets (2023)

Mallorca vs. Villareal

Villarreal will travel to Mallorca looking to end a losing streak of three matches in a row. However, the team will be without key players like Gerard Moreno, Nicolas Jackson, Giovani Lo Celso and Francis Coquelin, so they face an uphill battle against a Mallorca team that has won their last four home matches by a score of 1-0.

Even when Villareal was finding success earlier this calendar year, their wins were by razor-thin margins, as their offense has severely let them down all season long. As for Mallorca, they have been the model of inconsistency, alternating wins and losses since Nov. 9.

Coming into this one following a recent loss to Sevilla, I like for them to get back on track.

Pick: Mallorca (+230)

Atletico Madrid vs. Athletic Bilbao

Athletic Bilbao will be celebrating the 125th anniversary of the club when they go to Atletico Madrid. To mark the occasion, the Spanish club will allow Athletic Bilbao to play in their home colors.

The hosts are without Stefan Savic due to a suspension, while the visitors are missing Ander Herrera due to injury.

With missing personnel on both sides, I’m looking at recent momentum as an indicator, with both teams coming in with some recent success. Atletico Madrid has been especially potent, not losing since Jan. 8 in a 1-0 defeat to Barcelona that was a back-and-forth affair.

Sitting with a goal differential of +13, Atletico Madrid has proven all season long they belong near the top of the table. Bilbao, however, has lost three of five despite wins in their past two straight.

Pick: Atletico Madrid (+100)
