Mike Tindall Grand National Diary

Mike Tindall Grand National Diary

Betway ambassador Mike Tindall describes his day as his horse Monbeg Dude runs the race of his life in the world’s most famous steeplechase:

What a day Saturday was!! It was the first time everyone was there without having to worry about a rugby game or training so the atmosphere was far more relaxed and definitely more Dude focused.

From an expectation point of view, with his below par run at Cheltenham and nobody really expecting him to improve on his 7th place finish in the 2014 Grand National, we just planned to enjoy the day and hope he came home safe and sound. What we didn’t expect was to be watching him coming to the elbow on the 2nd circuit and the thought crossing my mind, ‘he’s going to win!’.

The effort he had put in was incredible and as he was closing in on Saint Are and Many Clouds for a moment we all dreamed about the win, unfortunately the marathon race took its toll on his finish but nevertheless what a performance!

The performance was made more impressive when we watched it back. He didn’t have the most straight forward race having to jump and sidestep horses as he made his way round the testing track, but to still be fighting at the end shows how lucky we got when we bought the Dude. It took a long while to sink in that evening what he had achieved but do we dare to dream what could happen in the future?!!!  Go On The Dude.
